History
Dutch Bible owned by Christian Vander Veen, published in 1624. Buried to survive the Holland Fire, and used in the Holland Academy.

Rev. Christian Vander Veen (1838-1896) lived in Holland, MI on east 7th Street, along the south side near College Avenue. He served as editor of De Hope newspaper, which was located in a brick building on the Hope College grounds (13th & College).

During the fire that destroyed Holland in October 1871, Vander Veen lost $2,000 worth of furniture and library books ($51,000 in today's economy). Only a handful of his rare books survived because he buried them. Eight of these books, all from the 16th and 17th century, were donated to the Netherlands Museum in 1937 by Vander Veen's son Theodore.
