Description
Book, History of Martyrs (Historie der Marte Laren), published by Jacob Braat in 1657.

Accounts of martyrs who died for the Christian faith have been part of the Christian church since its beginning.  The 16th century saw the emergence of Protestant books of martyrs, which were indebted to the famous Book of Martyrs by the Englishman John Fox. Van Braght’s book, except for the addition of Mennonite and Anabaptist martyrs, is basically a replication of the first Dutch-language martyrology, printed in Emden, East Frisia, by the Calvinist refugee Adriaan van Haemstede.
