This pair of eyeglassess were given to Dr. John Pieper from Dr. John B. Nykerk.Dr. John Pieper (1888-1974) was an optometrist with an office at 28 West 8th in Holland, MI. He lived in Holland with his wife Hattie at 68 West 18th Street.
Dr. John B. Nykerk (1861-1936), an elder at Hope Church in Holland, MI, was a professor of literature at Hope College. His specialty was Shakespeare. In 1906 Nykerk traveled to Oxford where he interacted with academics. While in England, Nykerk picked up the Oxford accent, which he continued using upon his return to Holland.
