This trunk belonged to Evert Zagers, one of the Van Raalte party that came to Holland in 1846.Evert Zagers was born in Bentheim, Germany on 7-23-1814. He passed away in Holland, MI on 3-10-1884. His second wife, Hillegiem Poppen, was born in the Netherlands in 1826. She passed away in Holland, MI on 6-21-1890. Both are buried in Graafscap Cemetery in Holland, MI.
They were married in Zeeland, MI on 12-19-1847. The 1860 US Census shows the couple living in Holland, MI. By 1880 they hade moved to Laketown, Allegan County, MI (1880 US Census).
