Description
Black and white photograph three men (members of the Holland Cycle Club) on bicycles, with a man standing beside each bicycle.  Three boys can be seen in the background, on the right.
This photograph of the amateur class A mile championship was taken on September 30, 1897.  The race was won by Frank Pifer (seen wearing white, on the bicycle at right.).
History
The 1910, 1920 and 1930 US Census shows that Frank Pifer (1867-1955), son of Samuel Pifer (1831–1912) and Mary D. Sperry (1839–1900), lived in Holland, MI on West 12th Street with his wife Mamie.
