History
This doll belonged to Holland, MI resident Maggie Klein Schaftenaar (1866-1965). It was given to her by her father ca. 1875. Her parents appear in the 1870 US Census, living in Holland, MI.

Maggie married Henry Schaftenaar (1866-1907). She lived at 61 W. 16th with her mother Jennie Kleyn (also spelled Klein) in 1910 and 1915 (Holland city directories). She later lived at 65 West 16th Street in Holland, MI (1921 and 1931 Holland city directories), working as a dressmaker. She later lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Cora and William Sloot at 72 West 16th from 1945 through the 1950s.

She was buried in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.

The dress is not original to the doll. It was made ca. 1962 by Harriet G Horn Eyles (1906-2005) of Holland, MI. She lived at 182 E. 16th St. with husband Ray. Harriet appears in several Holland Sentinel advertisements in the early 1960s as the "doll doctor".
