Oscar E. Yates was born in Calhoun Co., MI on 10-12-1845. He became Holland's 13th mayor in 1890, a position he held until 1892.He married Gertrude Isabella Giddings (1847–1930). Their children included the following: Grace Winifred Yates (1878–1956); Amy Metella Yates Kremers (1882–1966); and, Avis Gertrude Yates (1884–1965).
Oscar passed away in Holland, MI on 10-27-1901.
