Description
Silver-colored, metal permanent wave machine with a domed top.  Numerous cords hang down from the top with metal clips attached on the end.
History
This permanent wave machine was used at the Personality Beauty Salon in Holland, MI. The salon was owned and operated by Holland, MI resident Opal M. Dyer Manthey (1904-1995).
In 1942, the store was located in Holland at 232 Washington Blvd. By 1949 it had moved to 246 River Ave. where it remained into the late 1950s. Advertisements in the Holland Sentinel show that Opal operated her salon into the 1960s and, by 1963, it had moved to 44 West 8th Street.
The 1938 and 1940 Holland city directories show that prior to operating the Personality Beauty Salon, Opal owned and operated Ye Beauty Shop, located at 232 Washington Blvd. in Holland.

Opal was born in Deselm, IL on 10-19-1904 to Henry and Magdelena Bispring. Opal married Clare Dyer (1904-1944) in Illinois on 12-3-1923. By 1930 the young couple had moved to Holland, MI (1930 US Census) where Clare worked as a foreman for the Chas. Karr Company.

Opal and Clare had one child, Monte Dyer.
