Woodcut print of the Voyage of Columbus - signed by John DePree, black frame. Colorful woodcut with thick dark lines of print, accented with rich bright colors of the sky, seas, and sails.
History
John D. De Pree was known as an expert artist and engraver. John made woodcut blocks to create prints of different colors and textures. He spent many years studying art. John has 3 brothers: Con, of De Pree Chemical Company, James and Jack. In February 1897, John was arrested as an alleged member of the Kingston gang of counterfeiters.
