Description
Black and white postcard of Holland Fire Dept. #1.  Six unidentified firemen stand beside a wagon.  Six more firemen can be seen in the wagon.  The wagon is draped with bunting and decorated with six US flags.  Two horses, George and Sam, are attached to the wagon.
 
History
Holland's Eagle Hose Company No. 1 (a.k.a., Fire Dept. No. 1) was located on west 8th Street between River Ave and Pine. According to the 1908 Holland City Directory, the approximate time this photo was taken, active foremen at this location included the following: Lane Kamerling; Abel Smeenge; Henry De Maat; J.M. Van Tubbergen; Fred Smith; Dick Knoll; and John Veldheer.

This postcard was printed by the Holland Photo Company of Holland, MI. They were located at 27 East 8th St., Arthur Gumser was the proprietor.

This postcard originally belonged to the donor's mother-in-law, Anna Brummel Vane Bunte. The postcard was sent to her from Holland, MI ca. 1908.
