Description
Microscope, measuring 13" x 4.5" x 6" and made of metal and glass.  Contains a reflector mirror for light source and 3 different magnification size heads (one for oil immersion of stains).
The name "Spencer" appears on the cover above heads.  The silver eye piece slides out.


 
History
Microscope used by Dr. Vern Boersma when he first started in practice and was helping improve the medical care of migrant workers that came to pick blueberries in the Holland, MI area. Dr. Boersma pulled a trailer behind his car when he visited migrant workers and offered free examinations to the workers. Dr. Boersma also helped to establish a clinic at children's day care center on Berry St.

In the 1960s, Dr. Vern Boersma and wife Lois lived in Holland at 97 East 30th Street. His doctor's office was in Holland at 121 West 24th. Both graduated from Hope College in 1944.

Boersma practiced in Holland until retiring in 1987. In addition to conducting his practice, he donated medical services to numerous community organizations. His service included organizing the Ottawa County Migrant Health Clinic, of which he was medical director for 25 years.
