Description
Shows the ship Alabama docked alongside the Board of Public Works, the Brewer's City Dock silos in the background. It is thought it is a painting by Claribel Wright, (1939-1945). The donor's grandfather, John Bekken, was a blacksmith who did lots of repair work on the Alabama. This painting was done for a talent auction for the Methodist Church Women's  Sunday School class. It was purchased by the donor's mother, Bea Shashaguay for her husband Bernard. Bernard owned IXL Machine Shop.
History
The SS Alabama was laid up in Holland, MI each winter from 1946-1960.

The artist, Claribel Wright (1893-1991), worked for 38 years as a painter at the Wooden Shoe Factory in Holland, MI. She has designed shoes for many US Presidents and Rocky Marciano. Claribel worked with over 1,ooo designs throughout her career, including windmills, automobiles, and flowers.

Clara remained single, living for many years in Holland, MI with her parents Fred and Mary.
