Description
Jupiter accordion with gold-colored keys, red stained wood frame, made by B & J New York.
History
This accordion belonged to the donor's grandfather, Jan Van Faasen (1854-1919). Jan lived in the Bentheim area of western Germany, along the Dutch-German border. Jan fled Germany ca. 1891, with his Dutch wife (Aaltje Kesser 1860-1904) and five sons (Herman, Bernard, John, Albert and Edward) because the German Kaiser was beginning to enlist young men into the army. The five sons were hidden in a hay wagon. They traveled to Rotterdam, Ellis Island and, eventually, settled in Holland, MI. The family home in Holland, MI was on west 14th between Maple and Washington.
