Description
US Navy W.A.V.E.S. uniform jacket. The United States Naval Reserve (Women’s Reserve) better known as the WAVES for Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service was the women’s branch of the United States Naval Reserve during World War II. The group was started in 1942 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.  
History
Uniform belonged to Antoinette C. Sikkel who enlisted on December 6, 1943 and served from January 7, 1944 to January 19, 1946.
She trained as an Aviation Machinist's Mate. At Quonset Point, Rhode Island serviced fighter planes from aircraft carriers of Atlantic Fleet. At Opa Locka Naval Air Station, Florida was on-line maintenance crew of Privateer bombers.
