Cape worn by Dena Kamperman Steketee (1861-1953), grandmother of the donor.Dena was born on 11-7-1861 in Zeeland, MI to Dirk and Trijntje Kamperman. The family was still living in Zeeland, MI in 1880 (US census). Dena married Anthony Steketee (1862-1944) in Zeeland, MI on 5-27-1884.
By 1884 Dena and Anthony had moved to Holland, MI. where they remained through 1920 (US census). By 1930 they were living in Grand Rapids, MI (US census).
Dena and Anthony had three children: Josie C. Steketee; Kate Steketee; and, Nelson C. Steketee.
Dena was a member of the Third Reformed Church in Holland.
Dena passed away in Detroit, MI on 11-3-1953, She is buried in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.
