History
Item belonging to former Mayor Nelson Bosman.
Nelson William Bosman (1906-1993), son of Gertrude and Arend Bosman, was a graduate of Holland High School and Hope College. He married Lois Caroline Dressel (1908-1995) on Sept. 9, 1933 and lived at 357 Lincoln Ave in Holland.
After graduation he became a self-employed electronics repairman. The 1956 Holland City Directory contains an advertisement for Nelson Bosman Radio Service, located at 97 W. 14th Street.
Nelson helped organize WHTC in 1948. He also was a member of the Holland Exchange Club, the Board of Public Works, the State Boundary Commission, and the Holland Historical Trust and a long-time contributor to the Holland Tulip Festival.
Nelson served as Holland's mayor from 1961-1971. The city council, led by Mayor Nelson Bosman, sold $450,000 in bonds to finance “Operation Windmill” - the purchasing, transport and repair of the De Zwaan windmill from the Netherlands. He received a distinguished service award from Hope College after his tenure as mayor.
Nelson Bosman is buried in the Pilgrim Home Cemetery.;
