Description
Natural colored straw hat; wide brimmed--4 3/4" in front 2.5" in back; hat is constructed of 1/2" straw braid sewn in and overlapping circular pattern starting at crown; outer 1 3/4" of brim is made of beige horse hair braiding sewn in same circular fashion; hat is trimmed with two 1/4" ribbons (one beige, one light brown) around crown and tied in a floppy bow on right side; label reads "Medfield 23"; 2 1/2" pearl hat pin in back of hat; c. 1940's.
History
This hat belonged to Elizabeth Bareman (1921-1995), daughter of Lucy Steketee and James Bareman (Bareman's Dairy). She graduated from Holland Christian High and the Holland Business School. She worked for many years as a purchasing agent at Hubble Mfg. Co. in Zeeland and at Sligh Furniture in Holland.
